We fit shutters for a living, but we won't pretend blinds don't have a place. Here's the honest comparison we'd give a friend.
When blinds win
Short-term rentals. Box rooms where you'll never look back. Windows you genuinely plan to replace in two years. If the window is temporary, the covering should be too.
When shutters win
Everywhere else — and especially in rooms you spend real time in. Living rooms, principal bedrooms, kitchens, bays. The difference in how the room feels is significant, and the cost-per-year over a 25-year life works out cheaper than rotating blinds three times.
On cost
Yes, shutters cost more up front. A whole-house blind project might land at £600. The same project in shutters might be £4,000. But blinds last 5–7 years; well-fitted shutters carry a lifetime guarantee. The maths quietly flips.
On light
Blinds give you up/down or open/closed. Shutters give you a precise tilt — louvres half-open, room flooded with soft light, no one able to see in. It's the difference between a switch and a dimmer.
